Al Nahda and Uber Organized a Special Event to Honor Women Beneficiaries of the “Masaruky” Initiative

Al Nahda and Uber organized a special event to honor women who benefited from the partnership between the two entities and obtained their driving licenses from the Saudi Driving School. The event was held at Al Nahda’s headquarters in Riyadh, where the first group of program beneficiaries was recognized as part of Uber’s “Masaruky” initiative, in the presence of prominent guests from Al Nahda, the General Authority for Transport, the Saudi Driving School, and Uber.

During the event, the women participating in the program and the graduates had the opportunity to meet members of the management teams from Uber and Al Nahda, as well as representatives from partner organizations that provided products or services to support their driving experience and make it easier and more convenient.

During the ceremony, Mr. Brooks Entwistle, Chief Executive Officer of International Business Development at Uber, said: “I am honored to welcome the participants and graduates of the driving program as part of Uber’s ‘Masaruky’ initiative. We are extremely proud that this program and our partnership with Al Nahda have yielded positive outcomes for the beneficiaries, who can now access more flexible economic opportunities after obtaining their driving licenses.”

On her part, Ms. Munira Al-Touq, Board Member of Al Nahda, stated: “This event marks an important milestone in the partnership between Al Nahda and Uber. The achievement of the graduates today is not just about obtaining a driving license; it is a starting point to encourage more women to join the workforce and contribute to the growth and stability of the local economy. We look forward to the continued success of this partnership and to honoring more graduates in the near future.”

Commenting on the initiative, Eng. Fawaz Al-Sahli, Vice President of the General Authority for Transport in Saudi Arabia, said: “I extend my thanks to Al Nahda, the Saudi Driving School, and Uber for their collaboration in supporting the empowerment of the women we honor this evening. This event represents a prominent milestone on the path to enabling more women to drive and facilitating their access to economic opportunities across the Kingdom.”

Meanwhile, Ms. Dana Al-Atishan, Executive Vice President of the Saudi Driving School, stated: “In this special event, the participating and leading entities come together to realize the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s vision for women’s empowerment. Today, we celebrate the beneficiaries receiving their driving licenses. We are proud of the achievements this will bring at both personal and economic levels, wishing everyone safe driving and a promising future.”

It is noteworthy that the partnership between Uber and Al Nahda falls under the “Masaruky” initiative, which was announced in 2018. The initiative allocated 1 million Saudi Riyals to increase women’s participation in the workforce by enabling them to access affordable transportation, as well as providing more flexible and part-time economic opportunities through Uber’s technology. Today, thousands of women benefit from this initiative, including the graduates being honored today.
